Child Protection Policy
is designed to assure the safety of our children. Part of this policy includes parent sign in/out procedures. It also requires that all volunteers, including parents who work with children, complete a short screening form and return it to the church office. A felony check is part of this screening process. A written copy of the policy is available in the nursery or by request from the church office.

Arts Alive Camp: The Global Village

Arts Alive Camp: The Global Village
August 5 – 8, 2013

Get your passport stamped as we travel the world with Heifer Project International. Learn how children around the world are affected by the gift of a Heifer Project animal. Experience other cultures through stories, art, dance, song, drumming, and play. Meet a real goat! Our week will culminate on Thursday with a field trip to Heifer Global Village at Howell Nature Center in Howell, Michigan.

Camp Schedule:
Monday – Wednesday: 9 am – 3 pm
Thursday field trip: 8 am – 5 pm

Registration: Early Bird Rate: $45 if registered by July 8; $55 after July 8. Click here to register online.
Fee provides lunch and snacks each day, t-shirt, reusable water bottle, entrance fee & transportation to Howell Nature Center. Additional costs are underwritten by First United Methodist Church.

Infant Nursery (age 0 – 23 months)
Sunday Nursery Care Open from 9:00 am – noon Room 107
We are happy to welcome you and your child to the First Church nursery! Our mission is to provide a safe and loving environment for your child while you participate in adult education classes and worship services. Our Parish Nurse, Marj Timmerman is available to discuss any questions or input you may have regarding the care of your child. The First Church nursery is staffed by experienced individuals who are knowledgeable of nursery procedures and emergency plans. They provide consistent, loving care, and delight in getting to know both children and parents of our church. You can easily identify staff and helpers by their royal blue aprons.

Toddler Nursery (age 2 & young 3)
Sundays open from 9:00 am – noon Room 205
Children learn simple Bible stories, do age-appropriate crafts, and have time for explorative play.

Children & Worship (older 3s – K)
Sundays Section 1: 9:15 – 10:15 am Room 204/201
Sundays Section 2: 11:00 am – noon Room 204/201
Children are invited to a time of Biblical story telling and worship in our Children’s Worship Centers. This approach to worship allows children to participate in the stories of God, to actually experience God’s presence, and carry the meaning of these stories into their own lives. Children should be preschool ready and potty trained to attend this class.

Faith Travelers (grades 1 – 6)
Sundays 9:30 am – 10:25 am Third Floor
Elementary-aged children are invited to attend 9:15 am worship with their families before being dismissed for Faith Travelers at 9:30 am. Families who attend the 11:00 am worship service may take their children directly to Faith Travelers at 9:30 am. Children will experience foundational Biblical stories by using a variety of learning styles. Each week children and their shepherd will rotate into a new learning center where they will explore the Bible through story-telling & drama, puppetry, video, computers, art, cooking, handicrafts or games.

Choirs
Children and youth will express their faith through age appropriate vocal music. The choirs will sing in our worship services several times throughout the school year.

Faith Travelers’ Choir (grades 1 – 6)
- Incorporated into the Faith Travelers’ curriculum, with an additional rehearsal following.
- Sundays from 10:25 – 10:55 am 3rd Floor
Choristers and Treble Ringers (grades 3 – 8)
- Sundays from 4:00 – 5:00 pm The Choir Room
Youth Choir (grades 7 – 12)
- Sundays from 10:25 – 10:55 am The Vine Game Room

Junior Church (grades 1 - 2)
Sundays from 11:00 am – noon Room 202
Children in 1st and 2nd graders are invited to attend 11:00 a.m. worship with their families before being dismissed to Junior Church following Moments with the Children. Junior church is a traditional classroom setting where children learn Bible stories accompanied by appropriate activities and crafts.

Children in grades 3 - 6 are invited to be active participants in our 11:00 am worship service in the sanctuary. A special children’s page and worship bags with appropriate materials are provided to help children focus on meaningful moments within the service.

Kids’ Club (grades 3 - 6)
Sundays from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Wesley Hall
Involves children in fun, service, prayer, and friendship as they learn what it means to be part of a Christian community. A meal is provided for $2.00. Childcare is available for younger children whose parents participate in church programming.
